James Johnston was born in New York City. He studied architecture
at the University of Virginia and graphic design at the School
of Visual Arts. His career as a professional artist spans
more than 25 years and includes many media: ceramics, wood
and metal sculpture, product design and painting. His work
has been seen in such publications as W, Vogue and The New
York Times, and he has exhibited throughout the United States,
as well as in Europe, Japan and Mexico. Since moving to San
Miguel de Allende, Mexico in 1997, he has worked as a printmaker
and teacher. He now lives and works, both writing and painting,
in Mexico City and has published his first book, Mexico
City: An Opinionated Guide for the Curious Travelor.
